The Hunter College Undergraduate Student Government announced that Rico Nasty will headline their Spring Concert on Friday, April 12.
The concert will be held at Terminal 5, a music venue in Hell’s Kitchen. Tickets are available online for $10, plus a $3 handling fee. Entry will be granted exclusively to Hunter and CUNY students upon identification.
The Office of Student Activities sent an email to students promoting the event on Tuesday, just three days before the concert. Students interested in attending should purchase tickets as soon as possible, because “Terminal 5 is big, but Hunter is bigger,” the email said.
Sofia Rothermel, USG’s evening affairs commissioner, reached out to Terminal 5 to secure the largest venue she could find for the concert. Approximately 2,800 tickets are available for sale.
“I wanted to find an artist who puts on a show rather than stands and sings,” said Rothermel. “I want to show CUNY students that public schools can have just as much fun as private schools.”
USG President Bashir Juwara said delays in finalizing contracts and insurance arrangements contributed to the late promotion, but expects that the invitation to all CUNY students will help with the turnout.
“We dedicated months to sourcing artists who were available on the dates and times corresponding with the venue’s availability,” said Juwara. “Fortunately, Rico Nasty was available for these dates which aligned perfectly.”
Flo Rida was amongst the artists USG had initially hoped to book, but Rico Nasty’s vibrant energy and availability was a better fit for USG’s vision for the Spring Concert.
Rico Nasty is a rapper and singer, known for her blend of singing, hip hop, and trap into “sugar trap.” She released her latest EP, “HARDC0RE DR3AMZ,” with Boys Noize on March 29.
Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the concert is expected to begin at 8 p.m., with DJ Miles to open for Rico Nasty. Tickets will not be sold at the door, and are only available for purchase online.
