The 68th Street- Hunter College Subway station is The 68th Street- Hunter College Subway station is undergoing construction by the MTA and Hunter College. One of the project’s main goals is to create a new look for the west plaza, add several elevators to the station, making it ADA compliant and accessible for everyone. With the ongoing construction not everyone is happy.

Students are expressing their concerns about the construction. Whether it is blocked subway stops, loud machinery or heavy foot traffic, students are fed up. Brianna, a full time student at Hunter, expresses her disdain towards the construction.

“I find it hard to understand the lessons when they are repairing outside while they’re also adding noise to the street traffic,” says Brianna.

Hunter’s Undergraduate Student Government is aid Hunter’s Undergraduate Student Government is aiding students through their initiative, the Purple PEERiod Project, which gives out free condoms and menstrual products once a week.

The initiative, which got its start in 2018, has been revived after the pandemic made it come to a standstill. The project has gained momentum ever since its return to campus, as the need for affordable menstrual and sexual hygiene products remains high. Reports have shown that inaccessibility to these products negatively affect a student’s education, as more than 4 in 5 have either missed class or know someone who has as a result. Hunter USG’s Student Welfare Commissioner, Shuhashini Khan, is looking to change this.

“We want to build access.”

The crown jewel of CUNY strikes again; Hunter Coll The crown jewel of CUNY strikes again; Hunter College continues to provide educational opportunities to its students at an affordable price.

With the rise of college tuition, students often scramble to pay their bills or take out loans, with the thought of attaining social mobility creeping into the back of their minds. For Adam Kaufman, a graduate student at Hunter, these concerns have diminished because of the school's quality education at a fraction of the cost.

"Going to a CUNY school to continue my education was one of the best decisions I've ever made because money is less of a concern, and I've made so many connections along the way," said Kaufman.

The CUNY Internationalist Club came out to speak against injustices caused by police brutality when news of Tyre Nichols’ death broke out. But they are not the only ones to take a step forward for change.
