Acapella groups consist of singers who only use their voices and no additional<br \/>\ninstruments.<\/p>\n<p>Hawkapella came on stage first, all dressed in matching cranberry and black outfits. The group<br \/>\nformed a semi-circle around various soloists, depending on the song. Their lineup included<br \/>\n\u201cForever\u201d by Chris Brown, a mashup of \u201cLet it Go\u201d by James Bay and \u201cLet Her Go\u201d by<br \/>\nPassenger, and \u201cNo Roots\u201d by Alice Merton. The songs varied in tempo as different soloists<br \/>\ncame center stage to belt out the main melody of the song, while the others backed them up.<\/p>\n<p>During the group\u2019s performance of \u201cNo Roots,\u201d soloist Julia Hayden got the crowd clapping<br \/>\nalong with her. Hayden referred to the experience as \u201cawesome!\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cThe Blue Notes were so great and accommodating and were so nice, not to mention super<br \/>\ntalented,\u201d Hayden said. \u201cThey have a beautiful space for their concerts &#8212; it had high ceilings for<br \/>\ngreat acoustics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group practices twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays. Throughout the entirety of the<br \/>\ngroup\u2019s history, they have released their own original music to platforms such as Spotify. They<br \/>\nalso have placed second in Hunter\u2019s third annual \u201cHunter\u2019s got Talent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Pray\" width=\"610\" height=\"458\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/78YDrjkpXuM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The group consists of 20 Hunter students: Maddi Tuccillo, Amanda Wessels, Anjor Khadilkar,<br \/>\nAriella Caminero, Bobby Rahman, Carolyn Weller, Cheryl Chen, Dylan Pappas, Elaine Chen,<br \/>\nEleni Mattas, Elias Kenouryiakis, Jason Wang, Julia Hayden, Kai M\u2019Kenna, Kaleab Wiggins,<br \/>\nLesley Monge, Liezl Gamboa, Michaela Manno, Miyuu Yokota, and Valentina Gomez.<\/p>\n<p>Although the group does not have a coach, rehearsals are often run by the music director, or<br \/>\nassistant music director, Michaela Manno and Maddi Tuccillo , respectively.<\/p>\n<p>At the showcase, the NYU group performed a set of pop songs that they arranged to fit the doo-<br \/>\nop sound of the acapella group.
