Some of the women on the list were ones who rose to power in politics after the recent midterm elections, some are presidents of other colleges, and some are CEOs. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">This is not the first time <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Raab<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> has been on a list of influential people in New York City; in November of this year she was also named number 22 on the<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityandstateny.com\/articles\/influential-list-gallery\/power-list\/2018-manhattan-power-50-11-to-50.html\"> \u201cThe 2018 Manhattan Power 50\u201d <\/a><\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">by City &amp; State, a media site that covers local and state politics and policy, coming right above Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, who can be seen on the list tied for 23. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Crain&#8217;s New York Business also named her as one of New York&#8217;s &#8220;100 Most Influential Women in Business&#8221; in 2007 and one of the &#8220;50 Most Powerful Women in New York&#8221; in 2009 and 2011.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Earlier this year<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">,<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Raab<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> was honored as a champion of educational opportunity by the Harlem Educational Activities Fund and inducted into the Manhattan Jewish Hall of Fame. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">According to the City &amp; State website, the company partnered with Jennifer Solomon, a communications professional, to help make the \u201cWomen Power 100\u201d list. Solom<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">o<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">n reached out to insiders and experts to help identify who is making the change and ranked each person based on accomplishments, their influence in politics, economy, philanthropic efforts, and ties to powerful politicians and supporters. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Other women listed are <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Tarana<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> Burke, the founder of the #MeToo movement; Laura McQuade, president, and CEO of Planned Parenthood of New York City; and Melinda Katz, the Queen&#8217;s borough president. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u201cIt\u2019s a tremendous honor to be recognized by City &amp; State alongside so many great New Yorkers, but it\u2019s especially gratifying because the award recognizes the life-changing impact that Hunter College delivers by opening doors of opportunity for its students,\u201d <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Raab<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> said in an email.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">She continue<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">d<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">,<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u201cI am grateful every day that I am able to contribute to Hunter\u2019s legacy as a place where the American Dream comes <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">true, and<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> look forward to continue exercising my \u2018power\u2019 on behalf of the College and its students<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u201d<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Raab became president in 2001 and since then has worked to raise the profile of the college. US News &amp; World Report ranked Hunter number 25 of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/best-colleges\/hunter-college-2689\">&#8220;Best Regional Universities, North&#8221;<\/a> for 2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">According to the Hunter College pressroom website, the <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">president has also raised money to improve the school, including $30 million for a library renovation and expansion that includes a new student center, computer laboratory and film screening space. She also partnered with Memorial Sloan<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">&#8211;<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Kettering Cancer Center to build a 3<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">36<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">,000-square-foot science and nursing health center<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\">on <\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\">74<\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s7\">th<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">S<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">treet to help student and faculty research. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">According to the website<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">,<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">this project <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">was just approved on Nov<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> 21 and will begin <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">construction<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> in the next few months. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Hunter <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">expanded <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">its campus to East Harlem, where <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Raab<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\">helped <\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\">re<\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\">build<\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\"> a $13<\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\">5<\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\"> million<\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\"> s<\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\">chool of <\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\">s<\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\">ocial <\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\">w<\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\">ork and <\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\">p<\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\">ublic <\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\">h<\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\">ealth<\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\">,<\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\"> which opened in Sept 2011. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\">The school was renamed the <\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sssw.hunter.cuny.edu\/programs\/msw\/\">Lois V. and Samuel J. Silberman <\/a><\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\">S<\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\">chool of Social Work at Hunter College<\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\"> a<\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\">nd is located between 118<\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s7\">th<\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s2\"> and 119<\/span><\/span><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><span class=\"s7\">th<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">streets <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">on Third Avenue. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Raab<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> began her education at Hunter College High School and received a BA with distinction in all subjects from Cornell University. She also holds a master\u2019s in public administration from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton and a J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School. Before becoming the president of Hunter in 2001, she worked as a litigator for two law firms here: <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Cravath<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">, Swaine &amp; Moore and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton &amp; Garrison.
