Ross Future Leaders Program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2023\/S8148\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The \u201cUniversal FAFSA Bill\u201d or SB8148<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> would require every New York high school senior to complete the FAFSA and apply for the New York Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) or sign a waiver form. Similar legislation has led to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncan.org\/news\/613062\/Digging-Deeper-into-Universal-FAFSA-Impacts-in-Four-States.htm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">increased rates of FAFSA completion<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the states that have implemented it, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.suny.edu\/suny-news\/press-releases\/2-24\/2-23-24\/fafsa-completion.html#:~:text=In%20an%20effort%20to%20boost,likely%20to%20go%20to%20college.\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">some research<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has revealed that students who complete the FAFSA are more likely to attend college.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If people know about their financial options&#8230;they&#8217;re more likely to go to college,&#8221; said Mei.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The policy was rejected in the recent <a style=\"font-size: 16px;\" href=\"https:\/\/nyassembly.gov\/Reports\/WAM\/AssemblyBudgetProposal\/2024\/2024AssemblySummary.pdf?t=1713364829\">One-House Budget Resolution<\/a> passed by the New York State Senate. But Mei said students can still support the Universal FAFSA Bill by calling their Assembly members to speak in favor of it. She also noted that they\u2019re particularly interested in what their constituents are saying now since it\u2019s their election year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou guys have a lot of voting power.
