\u00a0This Halloween, Hunter Undergraduate Student Government hosted a Bop-a-Thon to fundraise for <\/span>Band-of-Parents<\/span><\/a>, a non-profit that funds research and clinical trials for children with neuroblastoma.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Due to the high cost of research and small population of children diagnosed, research for neuroblastoma has moved slowly. But Band-of-Parents is looking to change that.<\/span><\/p>\n

The foundation was founded in 2007 by 100 parents with young children diagnosed with the disease, which is a type of brain cancer. Their mission, as stated on their website, is to fund projects that have already gone through lab trials and use them for patients that need them the most.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The event, complete with a photobooth, DJ set provided by WHCS Radio and merchandise available to purchase via a 10 dollar donation, took place in the main cafeteria on the third floor. A photobooth parked outside the cafeteria was also available, free to those attending the event.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hunter students banded together to raise 1,885 dollars, short of their 10,000 dollar goal. Those interested in donating can still donate <\/span>here<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe realized that a traditional dance-a-thon wasn\u2019t the way to go because students wouldn\u2019t attend,\u201d said Sofia Rothermel, Evening Affairs Commissioner for USG. \u201cSo we figured out the best way for people to donate money, and that was through Hunter merchandise.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Rothermel says the event is just a piece in the bigger picture. \u201cHunter is such a community-based school and we have people from all walks of life,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s something we love to celebrate and we love giving back to our community.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
