Carolyn Maloney, now a faculty member at Hunter\u2019s Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe won this seat the old-fashioned way; he earned it,\u201d she said of Bores\u2019 shoe-leather campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Amid musical interludes from Talent Unlimited High School singers, and remarks from various New York leaders, Bores\u2019 home-grown politics emerged as a theme. Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine called him \u201ca true son of the Upper East Side,\u201d while Manhattan Councilman Keith Powers assured him that \u201cthe people in this room are going to support you when it\u2019s time to do the hard stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said there\u2019s \u201cno better person\u201d to lead District 73, Bores spoke.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing his father &#8212; a union leader &#8212; in the second row, Bores said with a smile, \u201cThe best education I ever received was on the picket line with you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vowing to tackle public safety, affordable housing, and immigration, among other issues, Bores reminded the audience that small actions, like his successful campaign to put the Roosevelt Island tram on Google Maps, can have outsize impacts. \u201cWe need a government that gets big things done,\u201d he said, \u201cbut also gets the little things right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bores ended by reminding everyone of the work still to come.
