The good news is that the dance workshop spring concert will not be on Zoom. The bad news is that the tickets for Friday\u2019s and Saturday\u2019s performances at the <\/span>Peggy Theater<\/span><\/a> are sold out.<\/span><\/p>\n

During Wednesday\u2019s rehearsal, the dancers\u2019 anticipation of the performance was palpable. Their bare feet stomped and squeaked on the polished, wooden floor while the choreographer shouted occasional corrections. They were tired and hungry after hours of rehearsal but happy to be together.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With no masks on, the heavy breathing in the room was an audible connection between the dancers \u2014 a luxury these students did not have before COVID restrictions were in place. This weekend\u2019s evening recitals will showcase the choreography of 17 dance majors and their classmates.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the pieces that will be performed was choreographed by senior Rachele Domond. She describes her piece, \u201cHumble,\u201d as the portrait of her life.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt actually represents my life as a dancer from 8 years old to now,\u201d Domond said. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of symbolism, like how the duets, trios and solos represent time periods of my life.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

For two years, auditions were held online, most <\/span>concerts were virtual<\/span><\/a> and some shows would only take place with <\/span>dancers wearing masks<\/span><\/a>. Students posted their recorded creative work online, learned to move by watching others through a screen and interacted with each other from a distance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBeing a dance major online was really hard,\u201d Domond said. \u201cWe\u2019re in a field where we\u2019re constantly around people\u2019s energies. Now we\u2019re back and our talents never left.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Junior Sahamanta Ojeda, one of the dancers in Domond\u2019s composition, finds this show particularly unique because of the representations of culture.<\/span><\/p>\n
