Can we at least have Thanksgiving?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We can, but it might look a little different. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/spectrumlocalnews.com\/nys\/central-ny\/ny-state-of-politics\/2020\/10\/28\/cuomo-encourages-new-yorkers-to-stay-home-for-the-holidays\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Governor Andrew Cuomo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> urged New Yorkers to celebrate Thanksgiving with their loved ones virtually over concerns family trips could spread Covid-19.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;My personal advice is that you don&#8217;t have family gatherings even for Thanksgiving,&#8221; Cuomo said from Albany in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/buffalonews.com\/news\/local\/state-and-regional\/cuomos-advice-skip-the-thanksgiving-family-gathering-this-year\/article_6e0cfbca-1931-11eb-a25e-bf62f397ec9f.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">press conference call<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cThat is the best way to say I love you and that I&#8217;m thankful for you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Experts say that<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> homes and family gatherings are now the main source of coronavirus transmission. It\u2019s not unusual for 30 family members to gather over plates of roasted pork with white rice and lentils at Ramlakhan\u2019s aunt&#8217;s house. She feels discouraged due to a failed attempt to gather her family for the Muslim holiday Eid Al Adha this past summer. She admits how awkward it was not able to hug her loved ones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jafri and her family usually travel to her extended family in Canada but since Covid-19 cases have recently <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www1.nyc.gov\/site\/doh\/covid\/covid-19-data.page\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">risen to 2.5% in New York<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, they decided not to take the risk and instead plan on using facetime to communicate with her family on Thanksgiving day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For travelers, Governor Andrew Cuomo established <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/coronavirus.health.ny.gov\/covid-19-travel-advisory\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new protocols<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> permitting people to \u201ctest out\u201d of the mandatory 14-day quarantine. This only applies to any traveler coming to New York State from a noncontiguous state, US territory or CDC level 2 or level 3 country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since November 4, travelers who were out-of-state for more than 24 hours will have to get tested for Covid-19 three days before arrival. Upon arrival, a three-day quarantine must take place.
