Sustainable South Bronx to help run Cool Roofs

Hunts Point environmental group Sustainable South Bronx has been selected by the New York City Dept. of Buildings to be the program administrator for the city’s Cool Roofs Program this year.

The local organization will work with the Mayor’s Office of Recovery and Resiliency to help promote the program.

Program boosters say it has helped coat nearly 6 million square feet of rooftops on buildings across the city with reflective paint that lowers cooling costs and reduces the impact of the heat island effect.

Sustainable South Bronx urges the public to enroll their buildings in the program or to volunteer, by calling them at 646-400-5430.
