Urban Health Plan awarded federal grant

Hunts Point’s top health care provider, Urban Health Plan, will be awarded $250,000 in federal grant money to renovate administrative space at its Plaza Del Castillo health center at 1515 Southern Boulevard.

The funds will allow the facility to “expand the services available to patients,” said  Congressman José E. Serrano, adding that “this is an important federal investment in the health of our borough’s families and children.”

Urban Health Plan’s president and CEO, Paloma Hernandez, said the grant “will help us further our mission of providing quality care to the Bronx community and make it possible for us to continue to help residents to manage their own health.”

The group says it will use the money to add working space for a health educator and a social worker, along with an examination room and a room in the reception area for public health education presentations. In addition, kiosks with computers will be installed, for patients to access their health records.

The funds will be awarded through the Health Resources and Services Administration under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
