Casita Maria awarded $450k grant

Casita Maria Center for Arts & Education has been awarded a $450,000 grant from one of the city’s top philanthropic organizations to help equip its performing arts space.

The 80-year-old Longwood-based organization will receive the funding from the Ford Foundation over two years.

The grant money is also aimed to help Casita Maria create a reserve fund for its arts programming.

“Casita Maria has achieved remarkable growth over eight decades to stand out as a cultural anchor in its South Bronx neighborhood,” said Roberta Uno, senior program officer for arts and culture at the Ford Foundation, adding that Casita “continues to evolve into a dynamic arts leader nationally.”
