Parks Department defends its record

Parks Department officials defend the way they care for parks in Hunts Point and Longwood.

“We are committed to building and maintaining parks and green spaces in the South Bronx to promote healthy living,” said Jesslyn Moser, a department spokeswoman, in response to questions from The Express.
“We have not received any complaints regarding the issues you mentioned at those parks,” she said. “We encourage all residents with concerns to contact the Bronx borough parks office so we can work together to address any issues.”
Moser pointed to the rehabilitation of the Fox Street playground, for which ground was broken in mid-November, as an example of “recent good news” for local park users.
In addition, Printers Park is in Phase 2 of a total overhaul, and, according to officials, the Parks Department is considering reconstructing Horseshoe Playground and reconfiguring the game table area there over the next year.

A version of this story appeared in the December 2009/January 2010 issue of The Hunts Point Express.
