‘We and I’ to be screened in special showing, with cast

A movie shot in Hunts Point with a cast drawn from The Point Community Development Corp. will have its hometown debut on April 17.

Michael Gondry’s “The We and The I” will get a special screening at 7 p.m. at the American Theater, 1450 East Avenue, in Parkchester, followed by a question-and-answer session with cast members.

The movie follows a group of teens, recruited from the local community center on a bus ride that weaves through the South Bronx taking the cast home from school.

Made by the Academy-Award-winning director Michael Gondry, the movie has gotten rave reviews. The New York Times called it “a valentine to New York as too few travelers (or, for that matter, residents) see it: crowded, loud and rough, but with room for everyone.”

To reach the theater by public transportation, take 6 train to Parkchester, then head north on Metropolitan Avenue, turn right on Parkchester Road, left on East Avenue, a walk of under five minutes. Buses that go through Parkchester are the 4, 22, 14, 36, 39 and Q44.

General Admission tickets are $9, and there is a group rate of $5.50 per person for groups of 50 or more. To arrange group admission, call Joann Horwath 203-659-2610
